A retirement card, yikes! A retirement card for your boss, double yikes! If you’re anything like me when handed a blank greeting card to sign, a low-voltage buzz surges through your brain from pressure to write something clever.
It usually takes about a second for me to recover from such a circuit break, and then I remind myself to stick with simple and sincere.
In that vein, I've pulled together a list of 10 alternative sayings, which can be mostly added to, or used in lieu of the trite “Happy Retirement.” Depending on your age and or relationship with the retiree, you may want to exercise some discretion when using these phrases (or not).
Here goes…
- Cheers to a long, happy, healthy retirement!
- I’ll miss the water cooler talks and office antics, you’ve been one cool boss. Enjoy!
- If you ever get bored, just think of this place and you’ll get over it quick.
- I hope you take your next job of relaxing and having fun as seriously as you took this one - get good at it!
- The dedication and joy you brought to work each day will be missed!
- You made one helluva difference - thank you and congratulations!
- With no reservations I can truly say you’ve earned and deserve this retirement. Congratulations!
- It’s been (inspiring / awesome / a blessing / etc.) to work alongside you.
- I wish you the most relaxed and worry-free retirement ever. Make life fun!
- It has been a blessing to be guided and mentored by you - thank you for your leadership.
BONUS: Retiring already? Thanks for making it not suck to work here - you’ll be missed!
